I’ve been skeptical of battery-heated clothing, especially for backcountry pursuits. The problem is that batteries die, and when you are in the middle of nowhere, you don’t want too many things that rely upon recharging. The only thing I typically carry that has a battery is my Garmin InReach Explorer+ satellite communicator (follow the link for a review of that piece of gear), and that has a battery that lasts three days. Even then, I still bring a map and compass; the Garmin is for keeping in touch with my family and for emergencies. Being reliant on a power source for just keeping my extremities warm seems like an idea with some natural constraints.

But what I have found is that battery-powered gloves can make sense for short trips into really cold places. I did a whole video on that topic: when it might make sense to use battery-powered gloves and when it might not. Now I wanted to review on of the more performant models I have come across: the Lenz Heat Glove 6.0 Finger Cap. I still don’t want to be reliant on a power source when I am going to be gone many days. But for a day-trip, these have actually worked really well. Take a look at the video and then decide for yourself.
