Hiking and 14er Tip: Your Snacks are the Key to Keeping On the Move Like a Mountaineer

Want to shorten your breaks while on the hike, climb, or a 14er summit attempt? Or do you just want to make sure that you eat several times a day so that you keep your energy from flagging? Well, keep your trail food at the ready, and you can do both more easily.

Long breaks mean long hikes, so you don't want to stop to eat too often. But you also want to make sure you bring in enough calories to keep your energy up, demanding that you do frequently take some time to eat.

Well, high altitude mountaineers can't stop for long, or they risk hypothermia. So, they've learned to make sure that their food is accessible in their pockets, which dramatically reduces the time they spend every time they need to fuel up. It also makes them far more likely to take a few bites, regularly and frequently.
